DEATH OF YIOLENT-TEMPEEED MAN. BROTHER-IN-LAW NOT GUILTY OF MURDER. MELBOURNE, Oct. 22. William Murlin was found not guilty of the murder of James Stepliens, at Manangatang. The evidence showed that Murlin and family lived in terror of Stephens, who was. a divorced husband of Murfin’s sister, ft was alleged that Stephens repeatedly thieatened to shoot accused. Another sister of Murfm gave evidence that in 1918 one of the brothers was killed, it was thougnt. through being thrown from a horse, hut later the possibility that he was murdered by Stephens was openly discussed. Because of Stephen’s behaviour her father had taught the whole family how to use a revolver. Witness further stated that Stephens, who had a violent temper, once tried to murder his wife. He put her under a waggon, and then drove the vehicle over her.—U.R.A.
