MATERNAL MORTALITY. SYDNEY. Oet. 22. Speaking at the Royal Welfare Society, the president stated that three hundred mothers die annually in child birth, according to the Government Statistician’s report. Thirtyone per cent, of those deaths are dua to puerperal septicaemia.
BAKERS’ CONFERENCEHOB ART. Oet. 22The Eighteenth Federal Conference of the Master Bakers’ - Association of Australia- and New Zealand has opened- It was attended by 95 delegates from all Australian States and New Zealand. It was resolved to hold the next conference in South Australia.

(Received Oet. 22, 5.15 p,m.) SYDNEY, Oct, 22. The Country Press Conference adopted a resolution reaffirming its objection to preference granted to Canadian newsprint and confirming the notion of the executive in voicing an emphatic protest against it.
