NEW SCALES OF SALARIES AND WAGES.
WELLINGTON, Oct. 22. n order-in-'Oouncil has been signed by His Excellency tho GovernorGeneral. It is the commencement of the new system of dealing with salaries and wages In the Railway Department authorised by the Bill put through this session. It contains two • schedules fixing the scales of salaries and wages and the increments thereto for members, probationers and apprentices and providing for the classification ot such.. The regulations as set v forth are to bo deemed to have come into operation on April 1, 1924. The maximum salary of the general manager- is not to exceed £2700. The minimum for the first and second general managers is £920 and the-maximum £ll4 lys. The chief mechanical engineer _ (in charge of the locomotive, -carnage, and “waggon branch) and the _ chief engineer (in charge of the maintenance- branch) have the same maximum and minimum as the general inn. lingers. .'Others, in this - clnss ciio provided for as follows: Chief accountant, minimum £76-5, maximum £837 • signal engineer, minimum £615,’ maximum £837 : comptroller or stores, minimum £615, maximum £765. Tho minimum and maximum payments and increases for the various classes in tho Second Division are dealt with at length in detail.
