LONDON WOOL SALES. A CLOSING RESCAJE. DELAY IN COMBING. (United Press Association— Conyrisd*t.-' (Received Julv 2G, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, July 25. The wool sales closed steady. The catalogues were disposed of as follows : For Home market ... 152,000 ~ Continent 15,000 ~ United States ... 5,000 Held over 72,000 244.000 Good combing merinos fully maintained the opening advance. The Russians were operating freely. Prices were generally from 7) per cent to 10 per cent above those ruling in Alay. Shabby and faulty wore five per cent below the lowest Alay rates. Finer crossbreds met with a strong French demand and fully maintained the highest level of the year. Shabby and coarse lots, opened at an advance and dropped fully 10 per cent, but recovered this week and closed at one penny decline compared with Alay. Finer scoureds and strong coarser declined lid to 2d. Siipes declined one penny to twopence. Highest merino Jambs were scarce and best quality were 5 per cent dearer. Crossbreds declined fully JO per cent. I util the combing and carbonising machines in France and Belgium are again buying there is little hope for faulty and sliabbv wools. The lethargic support- of the Home market is due to i financial considerations. I la- New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agerey Company, Limited, have received the following cable from their London office—“ London cable sales dosed. Better market for crossbred. As compared with twentieth Alay merino superior 10 per cent, medium 7 \ per cent., crossbred greasy fine par to 5 per cent higher, coarser scoured and lambs 5 per cent to 74 per cent. s!;po J(J per cent, inferior merino 5 per cent lower.’’ Alessrs Alarray, Roberts and Co. have received the following cablegram from their London house. The Incorporated Society of Meat Importers’ Smithfield market quotations for the undermentioned elapses of frozen meat are based on actual sales of not less than one hundred carcases of mutton or lamb or twenty-five quarters of beef of fair average quality. The quotations are not for selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of the shipments now on the market.
