DECLARATION DAY.

THE EMPIRE RESOLUTION. OVERSEAS CLUB ACTIVE. In connection with the resolution to be * passed throughout the British Empire on August 4th (declaration of war anniversary) the local branch ot the Overseas Club is endeavoring to arrange that Gisborne shall l fall into line with tho rest of the Dominion in carrying out the wishes of Elis Majesty the 'King and the Imperial Government in this matter. It is felt by the Overseas Club everywhere that a similarly-worded resolution passed by every town, village, and hamlet in the Empire will have a far-reaching effect both in cementing the loyalty and patriotism of the Empire, and impressing our enemies in no uncertain manner that we are determined to bring this bitter conflict to an end which shall be satisfactory to ourselves and our allies, and for. tho benefit of humanity at large. The resolution issued by the British Government is as follows: — “On this anniversary of the declaration of a righteous war, this meeting records its inflexible determination to continue to the victorious end a struggle in the maintenance of those ideals of liberty, and justice which - are the common and ■ sacred, cause of the Allies.” ; .
