MANGAPAPA TOWN BOARD

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. ■The! fortnightly meeting of the Mungapapa down Board was held last night. There were present: M.ssr.s. IV. J. MeCiiskie (rimirtnan), C. A. Fenwick, J. Walsn, E. Grundy, C. Matthews, R. \i. ii 11. An apology was received" fro in .Mr. \Y. Hay, to indisposition. The by-laws in c imretiou with the Board were pass.:!. and the seal ol the Board! was authorised to be affixed to samel.

It was decided that the new bylaws should come into operation on August 1 next. The Gisborne Gas Company wrote, confirming tho Board’s order for six lamps and posts, etc., complete! forlighting, at £8 10s per lamp, and also offered to maintain, keep in repair, supply all mantles, and do everything necessary to ensure, barring accidents and unforeseen circumstances,. the Board always having the. maximum lighting power, for the sunt of £6 lO.s per annum for each lamp. It was announced that thiei lamps would be installed as follows: —One at south-east corner of Mangapapa road, one at east side of Ormond road near the school, one at north-east corner ol Dalrymplei Street (near Walsh’s), otic at the south-east corner of Hospital Road, one outside tlie Board’s office, and one.at the northwest corner of Atkinson Street. It was decided that the arrangement between the chairman of the Board and the manager of the Gas Company be confirmed. Mr. W. Buclcley was appointed to take charge of the sanitary service of the Board.

The Clerk was instructed to write to the Cook Count Council, informiinr 11 wit body that the Board would take, over the sanitary arrangements as from July 26. Cr. Matthews suggested that tno top end) of the creek near the new culvert at O’Dwyer’s should be widened, in order to allow the freer passage ol storm waters. It was decided to refer the matter tot-lie works committee to inspect and report. The Chairman remarked that the Board should have direct representation. on tho Hospital Board. Members discussed the subject, and agreed with the chairman’s views on the matter. Mr. J. S. Buckland, ranger, reported having impounded 14 bead oi stock during the month. Accounts amounting to till Is w r > parsed for payment.
