REMARKABLE FEAT BY THE ALPINI. SCALE PRECIPITOUS PEAKS. GREAT PROGRESS IN THE ADIGE VALLEY. (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) LONDON, July 13. The Alpini accomplished another remarkable feat. They scaled precipitous peaks and dropped on the unsuspecting Austrians, driving them out or the trenches and taking as prisoners twenty. It seems impossible to choose a position safe from the flank attacks of these wonderful mountaineers. It is clear the Italian grip on the Lower Trentiiio is tightening. They have gained ground both east and west of the Adige Valiev bv taking Galgasarta, a height of 4380 ft, dominating the Terragnolo valley. The Italians have begun a. fight lor the second road from Venetia to Rovcreto. VENICE BOMBED. DOGE’S PALACE ALMOST HIT. ROME, July 13. SECOND READING IN HOUSE OF LORDS PASSED. “ GO-AS-YOU-PLEASE SYSTEM HAS BROKEN DOWN.” LONDON, July 13. Tail’d Lansdovne, in the House of Lords, moved the Registration Bill. He said the country realised that the old go-as-you-please system had broken down. He believed wo had twenty-two to twenty-three divisions in thd European theatre at the present moment.. Prodigious efforts had been made to overtake past errors in order to provide- equipment. The efforts were attended with considerable success. There was not a word regarding compulsory service in the present Bill, hut he did not believe the country would tolerate the voluntary service with its present anomalies and injustice much longer. The Bill would greatly assist compulsory service because it. would shorten the intervals elapsing - between decision to resort to it and absolute compulsion. The Bill was read a second one.
