Italian Consuls at Jerusalem, Aleppo and Beirut who have arrived at Naples declare that Turkey is exhausted. The Arab element has completely separated its cause from that of the Ottomans. Turkish resistance at the Dardanelles will 'continue, for that is where the last forces of the Empire are being expended. The War Office announces that the statement in a Turkish communique that the Allies at the Dardanelles iised gas against the onomy is false. They have not resorted to this method of warfare. STRAINED RELATIONS BETWEEN TURKS AND GERMANS. EFFORT BY TURKS TO SECURE A SEPARATE PEACE. ROUMANIA WISE TO GERMAN TRICKERY. SOFIA, July 13. Bucharest newspapers are giving prominence to the visit of the Turkish Minister of Justice to Switzerland to open negotiations with the Allies with a view to a separate peace. Enver Pasha’s ordering the recent offensive resulting in defeat with heavy losses has caused strained relations between the Turks and the Germans. The latter are being strongly attacked. LONDON, July 13. Roumanian authorities state that they recently confiscated trains laden wit'll barrels of Munich beer, regarding which the German authorities telegraphed asking that they should be liberally supplied with ice .blocks. Suspicions were aroused. The barrels were found to contain ammunition. Enormous cement blocks consigned to Constantinople for building purposes were found to be hollow and filled with shell cases for large German howitzers. ANTAGONISM TOWARDS THE GREEKS.

The “Daily Chronicle's” Turin correspondent says the German military attache has quitted Constantinople, and the archieves of the Embassy have also been removed. The “Seccolo” states that the impression exists that the collapse of the Turko-German defence of the Dardanelles is not far off. QUITE A DIFFERENT STORY. SUBLIME PORTE TO BE DEFENDED. (Received July 15. 1.20 a.m.) MITYLENE, July 14. The Germans are erecting and strengthening the 'ortifications of Constantinople on a stupendous scale on the sea front. Trenches are being dug at half-mile intervals from San Stefano to Silivria, with concealed batteries of guns of all sizes.
