OUR READERS' OPINIONS.
A RACEGOER’S GRIEVANCE,
(To the Editor.) Sir, —As a visitor from the country to the last Gisborne races, I would lake, on behalf of the country visitors, to draw your attention to the paying of dividends. Tho tote was plastered with notices to the effect that dividends would bo only paid on the day of the race. Well, anyone collecting a dividend on the last race found it impossible to collect, and also catch the train, they had to miss one or the other, as the train started in ono .instance before tf#j paying out window was opened. I think the racing clubs should have the train delayed a little longer than they 7 do, so as to put the country patrons on iliesame footing as the town, as 1 t l:\.ik the train passengers on race days comprise 90 per cent from the eourw and I think they deserve every con skier a tion, as everybody is not in -t position to run home in a taxi. As lor il.e totalisator contractors having a notice to the effect that they only 7 pay a dividend on the day of race, I think this is a matter of opinion. As long as a ■ man has a ticket to present at any time the Club is obliged to pay. —1 am, etc., “TEKARAKA.”
