Tho effect that tho first experiences of war has upon the colonial soldier lias been vividly poiirtrayed in tho various letters from ' wounded men that have recently been published in tho columns of tho newspapers. It has remained for a Masterton hoy, however, to convey his impressions in poetry. Tho picturesque lines we publish this morning from the p?n of Corporal A. E. Prentice, of that town, have such a ring of patriotic ardor about them that they are sure to bo widely and sympathetically quoted.
