A 3IOIST MIXED FOURSOME
PLAYERS FINISH UP IN POURING RAIN.
That mixed foursomes are as popular as ever with the mombers of the Gisborne Golf Club was proved by the largo number of players who took part in this form of competition on Saturday afternoon. About 24 couples competed, and a most enjoyable time was spent, notwithstanding tho fact that rain caught the players when about half way round, and tho majority of the games were fought out in a regular downpour. The ladies especially showed, good sporting spirit, and every one of them refused to hear of abandoning the play. The result of the competition was that Mrs King and F. Traill (handicap 2) and Mrs Cole and T. Brook (handicap 14) tied with a net score of 72 each for the 14 holes played, and: will! play off for the trophy. Tile best cards handed in were as follows: Mrs King and F. Traill 7-1—2 —72. Mrs Cole and T. Brook 86—14—72. Miss Nolan ami A. E. Parker—76 —l—7s. Miss D. Bull! and D. D. Potts 76 —l—7s. A semi-final game was also played in the Handicap tournament, Mr G. M. Dodgshun (scr.) and J. H> Bull (4) being the contestants. Dodgshun went off in brilliant fashion, and at the® turn had a commanding lead oi 5 up. Bull here came to light with some fine play, and playing in faultless fashion took the next three holes in. succession from the champion, reducing liis card to 2 up. Dodgshun, however, was not to be denied, and forged to the front again, eventually running out a winner by 4 up and 3 t 0 Play - ,• . l'4-l 1? A game was also played in the B section of the Handicap tournament, A. Williams (7) meeting A. W. Rees (5) This was a close contest throughout, the former just managing to get home by 1 up. . . Dainty afternoon tea was provided at the Club house by Mesdames Singer and H. de Lautour and Miss Gretehen Kennedy, and proved most acceptable to the players after their exertions in the pouring rain.
