TO CORRESPONDENTS. Chips (Coast). —Wakeful was by Trenton—lnsomnia. Multiply has gone south but Chortle did not accompany him. On inquiry we are informed that the latter is all right. 1 During the GisborneTaces no less than 21 racehorses were accommodated at Mr G. Carrington’s Makaraka Hotel) the last (Kauri King) of which went north yesterday. Air H. do Lautour lias added to his team Campeador and Carlysian, whom he has purchased from Air T. Lowry. Both horses should pay their way well this season, as they should he in splendid racing fettle by the time the spring racing starts. Air deLautour intends sending Rustic and Oimoloid to Christchurch for the National Meeting, the latter to take part n hunter races, for w’ ich lie is no.v qualifying. Probably no horse provokes more discussion a .s to the events he will contest than the Gisborne owned Chortle. It was, however, the general opinion that the New Zealand Cup would be one of the races for which he was intended, but the son of Multifid. lias not been accorded a nomination and his absence from the list is one of tile surprises.

The New Zealand Country Racing Club’s Association is to hold a mooring in Wellington on the Tuesday prior to the New Zealand Racing Conference. In a circular issued to clubs, the association says':—“We know that our enemies from without, by combination, succeeded in reducing the number of days’ racing by 43 days in, 1910, and that our enemies from within wiped out 17 country clubs and reduced the days’ racing of the small clubs, principally to make up these 43 days; the metropolitan and larger country clubs being practically untouched. By strenuous efforts, and keeping the injustice to country clubs constantly before Parliament and the people, the association beat down opposition to the extent that the Gaming Amendment Act of last session was got through Parliament practically without opposition. The unfairness to country clubs exhibited by the report of the Racing Commission Is another proof of the necessity of combination. While we are solid such a report will never again be presented in New Zealand. The association has received hill recognition by tho Government, and was consulted in regard to the distribution of the 15 permits granted to country clubs under the Gaming Amendment Act, 1914, and we have been assured that the association will be consulted in any future redistribution of permits.” Air AV. B. Reid, of New Zealand, lias purchased the mares Spring of Erin, Grey Linnet, Symbolism, Flowcry Speech and Esther. Sinapis appears to have got over her soreness and is doing light work at Trentham, where she is now being trained. Carlysian, who accounted for the Alaiden Hack Race at Gisborne last week, is a two-year-old son of Elysian and Cardoon. As a yearling he was purchased by Mr T. H. Lowry at 475 gns, being one of the highest priced juveniles disposed of at the Auckland summer sale of thoroughbreds. Private advices received in Auckland state that Tim Doolan started favorite, and ran a dead-heat with Guncap at the recent Alonee Valley meeting in Melbourne. The accident that the well-known trotter Michael Galindo met with, through a collision with one of the Club’s draught horses, proved somewhat expensive ’to the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club. The balance-sheet shows a sum of £862 13s paid in settlement of claims arising out of that accident. The Birkenhead gelding ITima was tried over the small hurdles at Ellci slie during last week, shaping satisfactorily for a beginner. The Dominion representative, Tim Doolian, is ono of the most-fancied candidates for > the Y .R.C. Grand National Steeplechase, which will he decided on Saturday next. ~
