CANTERBURY BOY’S STORY. (PRESS ASSOCIATION TJMJCGRAM.) AUCKLAND, July 7. Looking quite fit again after a turn of scarlet fever, comes Private A. Eraser as a passenger by the Riverina on his way from Egypt to his borne in Canterbury. He was invalided home, along with about 400 Australians and New Zealanders, but had to remain in quarantine in Melbourne for about six weeks. He is anxious to get to the front again and, with that end in view, promptly presented himself at the local headquarters lor the purposes of inquiry. Private Fraser went out with the main body and ho was under fire against the Turks' who attacked the Suez Canal on February 2 and 3. Ho was with the Now Zealanders who served as reinforcements to the Indian troops at El Ferdan. The returned soldier -says that the Turks wore a very inferior lot- —just stragglers who hail been sent forward whikTthc trained troops wore reserved for the Dardanelles—at least that was the general impression. The Indians fought well, said Private Fraser, and had no difficulty in mastering the attackers. He also said that ho left Egypt at the end ol' April and, when at Suez, heard that the .-' Australasians had effected a landing at the Dardanelles. Private Eraser mentioned that scarlet fever was prevalent among the troops in Egypt and that measles had a severe kind were very rite. Ihe authorities, however, were handling tho situation effectively.
