Air J. A. AlcDonald. ongiueer-see-retary to the Gisborne Harbor Board, was expected back in Gisborne, with Airs AlcDonald, yesterday, but owing to the s.s. Rivei'ina being two days late on account of rough weather experienced in the passage from Sydney. he was unable to return. The chairman of the Harbor Board (Mr •1. Townley) yesterday received a telegram from Air AfeDniinkl at Auckland. applying for a further week's leave of absence. Air and Alls McDonald are expected to reach Gisborne on Sunday next.
Private A. East, of the Field Ambulance section of the Alain Budv. Now Zealand Expeditionary Force, son ot Mr Jas. East, of Gisborne, recently a teacher at W eilington, has been distinguishing himself at the Dardanelles. Another member of the same unit,, writing to his friends in Wellington, states that Private East, “luw been mentioned in despatches for incessant heroism in nicking up wounded. • and adds, “He’s a gem.’’ The writer goes oil to say: “Afanv good men have fallen, and the casualty lists make one proud of New Zealand antr her boys—absolutely fearless and omte humorously valiant,’’
A pretty wedding took nlace at Holy I rinity Church yesterday morning, when Miss Nellie Morel!, second daughter of Air 0. J. Morel!, of Whataupoko, was united to Afr F. Bed fern. Tlic Von. Archdeacon Packe was the officiating clergyman. The bride was given away by‘her brother, Air AY.' Alorell, of To Aroha. Miss E. Alorell was whilst.Mr (). Alorell attended the bridegroom ai* best man. . The wedding breakfast was held at the residence of the bride’s sister, Mrs J.
