DEPUTATION GUARANTEE IN- - TEREST.

DUNEDIN, June 1Several deputations iiitervieAved the Minister for Agriculture to-day. A Clutlia Valley deputation urged the construction of a line from Balclutha to the Tuapeka mouth, about twenty miles, and offered to give the Government a guarantee of payment of 3 per cent, interest on the cost of construction, AAdiich was estimated at £60,000 for a light line and £IOO,OOO for a heavy line, but they) stipulated that the small contract system be used and that there be prompt construction. It Avas also pointed, out that £IOOO a vear would be .available from the revenue of the Board’s endoAvments. Mr. Mackenzie expressed himself A-cry fa Adorable. to the project. He advised Otago to decide Avliat lines Avere advocated, and to present a unanimous front to the Government, instead of different interests urging various lines.
