REORGANISATION AND RETRENCH MENT. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, June 1. Dr. Valintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals, has been appointed Chief Health Officer, inr place of Dr. Mason. A number of Government employees have received notice that their services will not be wanted after three months. The analytical branches of the Public Health, Agricultural, and Mines Department will be amalgamated, under the charge of the colonial analyst, Dr. J. C. MeLaurin. Considerable saving will be effected in. respect to the geological survey. Expensive “bulletins” wifi be stopped, and field staffs reduced, without materially impairing the scope of the survey. DUNEDIN, June 1. Several clerks in the local branch of the Land Valuation Department received notice to-day that their services are to he dispensed with, in pursuance of the Coven men t ? s retrenchment scheme.
