The championship competitions wen continued on Saturday in beautiful w'oather. United met. To Ran at- the Victoria Domain, andfVVaiiderers• tried conclusions with Taruheru at freezing works ground. The results of the first day’s play "In both matches show indications that the completion of the fixtures will leave the competition in a most interesting stage. UNITED v. TE RAU. The United skipper won the toss and elected to bat, but a good deal of delay was caused owing to the To Ran eleven not being able to take the field at the recognised hour. The United batsmen made a good start, 86 nun being put on for three wickets, but after that wickets fell rapidly until Grenfell and. ■'Wli.yte became associated for the last wicket. This pair hit out merrily, adding no less than 40 runs before Grenfell succumbed to a good ball from Monk. Lang (28) Gorman (27). Gibson (15), and Hallamorc (13) were the other principal scorers, and the innings closed for 165 runs. Scholium, Wack. Paku, and Mill batted well for Te Ran. but the remainder of the batsmen failed badly against the bowling of Manning and Farrell. At the call of time Te Rail had lost eight wickets for 71 runs, Mill and McLeod, a pair of colts, playing out time in good style. The following are the scores: — UNITED. THE TOKOMAPU TEAM. The visiting team of cricketers from Tokomaru is to commence a series of matches with local teams at 11 a.in. to-day, on Victoria Domain. AUCKLAND MATCHES. [Press Association:] AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. The first round of the second draw of the Auckland Cricket Association’s district championship was commenced yesterday in perfect weather, and on good wickets. Pelf made his third consecutive century yesterday. In the senior grade University made (Wallace 21) in the first innings against Parnell. Oliff took 5 wickets for 2d runs, and Kerr 4 for 32. Parnell made 248 for 7 wickets (Wright 82, Lusk 68). Grafton’s first innings against • North Shore realised 141 (Cotterill 47_ and 'Hay 43). North Shore made 91 for 6 wickets (Prime. 36, Philson 35). Eden Colts against City made 212 in their first innings (Relf 110, Gilmore 26 not out). Neill took 6 wickets for 35 runs. _ City made 25 for the loss of four wickets. Relf took three wickets for three runs. Ponsonby’s first innings total aaginst Eden amounted to 192 (Kavanagh 56, Sneddon 33, Jacobsen 33). Stevens took' 4 wickets for 30 runs. Eden A made 81 for five wickets (Mills 29).
CHRISTCHURCH MATCHES. [Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 7. The seventh, round of the grade mate-lies commenced yesterday, afternoon, in dull weather. In the. match Limvood v. West Christchurch, the first-named in the first innings made ■ 3-10 (E. Humphreys 119, A. E. Docll. 57' not out, H. C. Ridloy 48), and West Christchurch .made 26 for ..two wickets. In Riccarton v. Sydenham the first-named scored 439 (H. Ellis 122, A. Anthonv 98, H. B. Whitta 72, A. Norman 65). East Christchurch scored 289 (L. Gordon 62, H. -Addison 46) against St. Albans, who scored 60 for four wickets.
DUNEDIN MATCHES. : [Press Association.] DUNEDIN,. Fob. 7. . Another round of the cricket inarches was commenced yesterday in fine weather. Dunedin put up 154 runs against Opolio, the, latter responding with 36 for one wicket. Carisbrook B disposed of Grange for. 170 {Chadwick 43), and made 89 for 3 wickets (Austin '44 not out). Albion made 69 against Carisbroook A, Fisher taking 6 wickets for 26 runs and Butler 4 for 40. Carisbrook compiled 240 for 1 wicket (Blamires 110 not out, Watson 69 not out, Hopkins 48). OTAGO v.
