THE PRIME MINISTER’S VISIT.
IX GISBORNE TO-DAY. —; -—'T’” The Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward) Aviil arrive- in Gisborne from Napier, by the Ala nu leu, this morning. Sir Joseph will be accompanied by Lady Ward, Miss Eileen Ward, and his two sons. The Mayor has made arrangements for them to come ashore, A when they will be taken for a- motor ■ dri ve in the country by the .Mayoress, returning to the Mayoral residence for refreshments, and then to t-lio steamer at Fp.m.. K The Mayor has arranged inquiry into the grazing run qucsfciob-. _ to be held in the Borough Chambers,, and has requested the-de-putation from the grazing run holders to be in attendance at 9 o’clock sharp. The Mayor will also mange for Sir Joseph to receive deputations from the To Arai settlers, and the East Coast Railway League, and the re-cently-formed Progressive League, of which Mr. W. F. Crawford is chairman, have a number of important subjects to bring forward, including: (1) The completion of the Arai Valley > (Mangapoike)-Wairoa. road; (2) proved telephonic service between Gisborne land Wairoa; (3) continuous local: telephone service; (4) purchase of Opou, Ngatapa, or Repongaere, and several suitable blocks at Wairoa - for closer settlement; (o). bi-Aveekly mail service with Wairoa; and (6) that some modification be made of the Harbor 'Board representation, since four out of nine members are Government nominees. • Sir Joseph Avill leave Gisborne by a special launch at l p-.m., to board the Manuka, for Auckland.
