On landing at New York, Captain Sealby, the commander of the sunken steamer Republic, and Mr. John Burns, the Republic’s Marconi operator who stuck to his post and transin ited a message despite the destruction of the deck house where the apparatus was located, were carried shoulders high along the pier. The women mobbed them and smothered them with kisses.

The State Senate of New York eulogised Mr. Burns and the officers and crews of the Republic aud Florida for their behaviour in connection with the collision.
