THE DUNEDIN NORTH ELECTION.
PETITION WILL PROBABLY BE WITHDRAWN. [Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Jan. 27. The present, position in regard to the Dunedin North election petition is understood to be that both parties concerned jointly examined the rolls under the sanction of an order ol' a Judge of tlic Supreme Court, and that •after the Investigation Messrs Solomon Woodhouso and Downie Stewart came to the conclusion that in regard to at least one or two votes Mr. Barclay’s contention as to duplicate votes had apparently been correct, and lie would bo entitled to the votes he claimed, but other votes had been given te him which would be rightly disavowed" and which would counterbalance the gain. Mr. Solomon lias advised that the petition be not proceeded with, which advice Mr. Barclay accepts. Tlio position will be explained to the Court to-morrow.
