THE BUTCHERY TRADE.

DELIVERY OF MEAT. SPECIAL BY-LAW ASKED FOR. At the meeting of the Borough. Council last evening the following letter was received from the Master Butchers’ Association:

‘Wo, the undersigned members of the Master Butchers’ . Association, respectfully petition your Council to so amend the by-law with respect to the purveying of meat as to prevent the present system of hawking it in carts within the boundaries. We do so on the following grounds: That our respective'” establishments are licensed, -and always-subject to the strictest inspection by the authorities ;also that all meat supplied to the public is obtained from stock duly examined land slaughtered at the municipal abbatoirs; that it is obvious for sanitary reasons all meat supplied to consumers should not be handled so often us -as now done, owing to the very objectionable hawking system of purveyors who have no business premises -within tho borough, and arc therefore not .subject to the conditions of superivision. from the time of slaughter to the sale. In the event of the by-laws being amended in this manner we undertake to supply all orders for moat direct to tho customers, with tickets attached, guaranteeing tho weight, and will also send scales if required to weigh tho quantity delivered.—(Signed) J. Maynard, T. McConnell and 'Co., a E. Newton, J, IT. Noreross,, J. Macliell, and E. T; Harries.” The 'M'ayor said he understood that many towns were stopping the hawking of meat, because carrying tlio provisions about in dirts billowed dust and dirt to collect on what the people had to oat. The application was important to tlie health of the people, and he thought the -views oi other Councils should be consulted in the matter. , , Cr. Sheridan, favored the Mnvor s suggestion, and the letter (was referred to the Sanitary Committee to report.
