A SCENE IN THE COMMONS.
ALLEGED UNAUTHORISED AL ITERATION OF A TELEGRAM.
Oy ited Press Association. Copyright (Received Jan. 25, 11.45 p.m.) OTTAWA, Jan. 25. A lively scene occurred in the Canadian House of Commons. Sir Wilfrid Laurier attributed the Conservatives’ successes in British Columbia to Mr. R. L. Borden, the Opposition leader, telegraphing the following: “The Conservative party stands for a White Canada, protection of White labor, and the -absolute exclusion of Asiatics.”
Mr. Borden denied this, and explained “that he had simply telegraphed to ;i newspaper that the party favored a White Canada and the absolute protection of white labor. He had asked an explanation from the newspaper how the telegram camo to be altered, and promised to.report the facts.
