CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION
The championship matches were continued oh Saturday, two games being commenced, at the Domain and Taruheru. The weather was extremely warm, and the light was not tile (best owing to the smoko and haze from the hush fires in the surrounding districts. UNITED v. TARUHERU.
The United skipper won the toss arid sent Taruheru into the field. The Town batsmen flarod none too well against the howling of Sharpies and Charles, and the last wicket fell with the moderate totril of 85.. Taruheru, on going in, wore, all disposed of lor 47 runs, and in United’s second attempt 49 runs were put on for the loss of two wickets. 'The (following are the scores:: — (UNITED—Ist Innings. [Press Association.] ■DUNEDIN, Jan. .24 After a break of several weeks, tlie cricket matclies . were resumed yesterday. A sliower fell during the afternoon, hut did not interfere with pfov. In the senior grade, Dunedin met Grange, and the latter were all disposed o,f for 138 (Henderson .71, not out). Torrance took four wickets for 34, Including the “hat trick.” Dunedin mado 80 for one wicket ’( Wilson. 48, not out). Oarrishrook 3 met CJarishrook A, and compiled 187 (Sicdeberg 95). The A team lost one wicket for 103 (Hopkins 62 not out, Watson 38 not out). Opolio made 61 against Albion, and the ilattor responded with 90 for six wickets.

CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 23. Grade matches were proceeded with this afternoon. The succession of hot days left the wickets hard, but not in the best order. Linwood gained a winning advantage over St. Albans, whilst Riccarton... against East 'Christchurch stayed in all the afternoon, scoring 278 for seven wickets. Sydenham gained a strong lead over West Christchurch, and should score another win against last ydar’s champions. The scores were as follows :■ — St. Albans 72, Linwood 256 for seven wickets (S. A. Orchard 51, E, Humphrey 91). Riccarton 278 for seven wickets (A. Anthony 146), against East Christchurch. West .Christchurch 124 v. Sydenham 139 for four wickets (J. Druges 72 not out)..
AUCKLAND MATCHES. [Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Jan. 24. Tlio seventh round of the Auckland Cricket' Association’s district championships was commenced yesterday in perfect summer weather, and on good wickets. The batsmen maintained their reputations, ■ centuries being scored by Keif and McCormick. ’ The following are the details of the senior grade play:—Eden Colts made 277 in their first innings against University (Relf 134, Alexander 40, rand Taylor- 35 being tlio
chief scorores). Graham took six wickets for 31 runs. University lost two -wickets for 33 runs. 'City’s first innings against Grafton totalled 301 (McCormick 135 not out, Gleeson 69, R, Neill 29, arid W. Stemson 24). Alason took Jive wickets for 101 runs. Eden A, playing against Parnell, made 156 in their,first innings (Cutn mings 48, A. €. Horspool 26 not out). Parnell lost two wickets (for 19 runs. North Shore against Ponsonby made 205 in their first innings. (Dwcre 49, Hadden 42, Bush 33, Woodward 29, and A. Howden 21). Woodstock took five wickets for 62. Ponsonby had lost seven wickets for 42 runs at the call of time.
