OPENED AT DUNEDIN. [Pbess Association.] DUNEDIN, Dec. 29. "The morning session to-day was devoted to unfinished games in the second round. Kolling v. Davies (Buy Lopez).— Tho oiid of the game was entered upon with knight, bishop and pawns on each side, Kolling being a pawn up. At the both move' the game was still unfinished, and was further adjourned, probably till Thursday night. Eorsyth v. Barnes (King’s gambit declared). —Eorsyth lost the exchange in getting rid of a dangerous bishop. He lost the exchange again shortly afterwards and resigned on the Hotli move. ’,, . . , The third round resulted as follows : - . Barnes v. Kolling (Caro Kami defence).—On the 27th move Barnes took liis opponent’s rook under a(mistaken impression that he was giving check and thereby lost Ids queen and the game. . Davis v. Mason (Huy Lopez).—Mason’s knight got into trouble on the I.lth move and bis efforts to extricate it gave Davis an oppoiMilufo’- oj attacking strongly. Mason resigned on the 47th move, being un ible to prevent a pawn from queening. Dodds v. Eox (Giuoceo Piano) . Fox lost a knight by hasty play. By sacrificing a bishop later ho won brilliantly on tlio 25th move. Edward's v. Forsyth (Zukertort s opening).—A very tough game. Edwards advanced bis king’s side pawns, thereby keeping Iqrsytli s forces, especially his bishops, in operation. .Later lie succeeded on the fiftieth move.
