The Underwriters’ Association has been advised that the New Zealand Shipping Co.’s s.s. Paparoa put back to St. Vincent on lire, and that it was decided to flood No. 3 hold.

The New Zealand Shipping Company received information this afternoon that the Paparoa has been on fire at St. Vincent. . The lire occurred in No. 3 hold', which had to be flooded. The vessel, which is of 6563 tons, is under the command of Captain Clifford, and left Wellington for London on the 20th tilt. The cargo taken from New Zealand by the Paparoa was as follows:—From Auckland: 190 bales wool, 1329 boxes, butter, 379 crate* cheese., From Oamaru: 26 bales wool, 42 bale* chepp^skins, 1 package general. From Bluff: 2 bales wool, 2668 crates cheese, 43 bales sheepskins, 13,035 carcases mutton, 195 carcases lamb, 299 crates rabbits. 17 bales rabbitskius, 50 bales fibre, 114 casks fescue, 256 bales tow, 34 casks pelts, 10 casks intestines. From Port Chalmers: 70 bales wool, 392 bales sheepskins,7ll crates cheese, 7 packages sundries, 561 carcases mutton. COS carcases rabbits, 133 bales rabbitskins, 75 casks tallow, 38 sacks fescue. From Timaru :487 bales wool, 121 bales sheepskins, 3 packages sundries, 5000 carcases mutton, 939 carcases lamb, 93 casks tallow, 52 casks pelts, 1000 sacks oats, 92 boxes kidneys. From Lyttelton: 753 bales wool, 204 bales sheepskins, 1700 boxes butter, 144 crates cheese, 17 packages sundries, 1000 carcases mutton, 109 carcases lamb, 116 casks tallow, 67 casks pelts. 77 bales leather and basils, 50 boxes tongues, 1780 bags grassseed. From Wellington: 12,545 boxes butter, 4833 crates cheese, 3931 hales wool, 234 bales sheepskins, 31 packages sundries, 46 hales basils, 24 bales leather, 11 carcases lamb. The dairy produce was valued at £184,000.
