COMMONWEALTH POLITICS

THE VICTORIAN ELECTIONS.

LABOR SUCCESSES

United Press Association Copyright (Received Dec. 30, 1.10 a.m.)

MELBOURNE, Dec. 29

There was fine weather for the elections. The polling was not as heavy as usual owing to many persons being absent holiday-making. Many returns are still incomplete. The feature of the- polling was the Labor gains. That- party carried several seats, especially at the expense of Ministerialists. This was partly due to holiday absentees, and more to quarrels amongst the other parties. It is understood that all the Ministers are safe.

The latest returns make the state of parties roughly: .Ministerial 24, Opposition 18, Labor 21, with two more electorates still to come in. The final figures may be altered in a few cases.
