Information reached the ■'Mail” office vesterday that Dr. Scott, of Autk land, an elderly man, anci t e r aged 18 or so, were lost m the bush on the way from Rotorua o Waikaremoana. The pait>, ‘ U ‘*J equipped for a straiglitout, uusensational journey left V aiotapu on Mondav. the 13th. reaching Galatea on the same day. They; left their bicvcles there, and started on loot tor the lake, reaching Te V Haiti tvithouu mishap. After leaving there they became bushed for three days, two ot which thev were without food or fire the matches having got wet. Ihev slept in the fern at night, and spent an uncomfortable time, most of their clothing being torn to ribbons j)v busli-lawyers. Two Maori ■women round the party one day s maieli from Wha'katane, and two from the lake. The Natives provided a tent and treated the travellers well. Next day a Maori guided them to Lake House, where they arrived at 7.30 last night, quite exhausted. Under the care of Mr. and Mrs-. Chains, caretakers, Dr. and Miss Scott are recovering, and leave soon for M aiioa. On one day the party travelled in a circle, reaching in the evening the spot, left in the morning. Prior to the party turning up, Mr. Challis sent out men in -tlie launch and ot er the. ranges without effect. The bush thev got into is very dense. Mr. Chaliis, "in 33 vears’ bush experience in the South" Island, had seen nothing like it.
