CHRISTMAS TREE.

Despite the unfavorable elements last, night there was a large crowd of children and their parents at the Salvation Army Citadel last night on the occasion of the- annual Christmas tree entertainment. There was a large tree beautifully decorated and illuminated in tho centre Of the platform, and it was literally laden with toys of all descriptions,' which had been collected during the past few weeks by Adjutant Dickons. Over 300 articles were distributed to the children, and not one of those present failed to receive a gift-, and several of them were loaded with their presents. The distribution was conducted by two gentlemen dressed in real Father Christmas costumes,and Adjutant and iMrs Dickens assisted by Cnpt. Jenkins, were untiring in their efforts to see that no one was forgotten. Mr Geo. Oolebrook kindly donated a large quantity of ice creanj, ancl of this it is needless to say. that the little ones showed a very practical appreciation. . , ’ _ At tho conclusion ot the proceedings Mr Geo. Dalton pro-posed a vote of "thanks to Adjutant Dickens for his thoughtfulness in. providing the entertainment, and expressed tho hope that next year the entertainment would be repeated. The gathering terminated shortly after 9 p.m., and judging from the beaming smiles on the 'laces of tho little ones they appeared thoroughly satisfied with the efforts of the Army to brighten, their lives and provide them with, some little token of the time df peace and goodwill.
