BOWLING.

MOTES.

(By “Toucher.”) The team chosen to represent the Turanganui Club at the Napier tour--11 ament; has overcome the first challenge -against the four skipped by Stormont. Things did not look too bright for the chosen four at the commencement, when the cliallengois led by 10 to 1, but at the hall-way stage only one point separated the teams. In the latter part . ot the game the reps, showed, improved form, especially the skip, Marfan. Though there was a difference of six points in the reps.’ favor at the finish, this was no criterion of 'the game. I hear that another challenge game is on the tapis. Such games do good to a rep. team. Entries closed on the Turanganui ■green on Saturday for the Bennett Clip competition, to which is also attached a gold medal. Eighteen entrants are competing, the largest number yet entered in this competition. Tlie regulations -are that each player* meets each player, the largest number of wins -counting, the cup to be held for the year, and cannot be won outright. So far two games have been played. The two colts who have entered, Somervell and Hay, mot, and as expected a good game resulted, the latter getting home by five points. There was nothing to choose between the two, who played well. A good game was that witnessed between Hird and Sawyer, but, contrary to anticipation, the latter suffered defeat by five points. Sawyer was the runner-up last year, and great things were expected of him, but Hird upset calculations. Last year Hird had considerable ill-luck, he being very low down on the list at the finish, suffering defeat in several games on the last head. However, on this occasion, Hird had notched his first win against a doughty opponent. It is anticipated that a great number of the games will be played during the holiday season. During the past week only one game in the Handicap Pairs of the Turanganui Club has* eventuated, that being between AlcSnmiming and Neili and Hay and Nasmith. The game was disastrous to the latter pair , who were badly beaten. Throughout ATcSkimming was deadly as lead, the heavy green suiting him admirably. Hay also played well, but his oppoHent was too good. Neill played a fine game, his fourth bowl repeatedly doing the trick. Nasmith got there occasionally, but it coukl easily be seen that he was not at home on the slow turf. The following is the position of the pairs in the various sections:.—

SECTION A. Wins. Loss Neill and McSkimming - 2 0 Nasmith and Hay ... 2 2 Sawyer and Somervell 1 1 Morse and Harries 1 1 Bennett and It. Sheet 1 3 McConnell and Edwards ... 0 0 SECTION B.
