The House of Commons, after strong Laborite protests, agreed to the Government’s acceptance of the Lords’ amendment in the Miners’ Eight Hours Bill, permanently excluding the time occupied in entering and leaving the mine from the stipulated eight hours. The Lords’ amendment delaying the operation for twelve months was disagreed with. Lord Robert Cecil,referring to Lord Ponsonby’s indignant protest at the g Government’s yielding to the House of Loro’s on the hours' question, asked whether Lord Ponsonby had not yet realised that Government did not intend to attack the House of Lords.
