WOOL. [Press Association.] INVERCARGILL, Dec. 16. TQie first wool sales of the season were held ye&terdav .afternoon, when 2842 bales were offered, about 1000 bales more than was expected. The wool was hardly up to the usual Southland standard. It was lacking in lustre and short in staple. The keenest enquiry was for fine, lengthy hogget wool, the top price being 11-id fop some Romney hogget wool, ipart of the Castlerock clip. ' Taken all over, the prices were beyond expectations. American, Home, and -Continental buyers were present. Tho bidding was spirited. By far the largest buyer was Mr. Swift, representing several European and American firms. ' N.o merino and very little half-bred was offering. Fine crossbred, superior to good, brought llid to 9]d; good to medium, 9d to 8d; medium to inferior, 7fid to 6fid jstrong crossbred, superior to good, 9-Jd to Bid; good to medium, Bd_ to 7d; medium to inferior, 64d to sd. DUNEDIN, Dec. 16.

In view of to-morrow’s wool sales at Dunedin, it is interesting to note that lOd was paid at Tapamii yesterday for crossbred wools which wore valued at 6id -a month -ago. WHEAT.
