DUNEDIN, Dec. 14
”lt is stated that seventeen ballot ■papers are missing from Dunedin North, but no information is available as to the manner of their abstraction.
When-.the time arrived for declaring the result of the recount, it was ascertained that Mr. Barclay is twelve votes ahead, but there are a lot of voting papers missing. The officials say there is some difficulty about interpreting the Act, and show much reticence. Later. The recount of the votes cast in the second ballot for Dunedin North has been advanced another stage. Mr Ward, to whom Mr Widdowson, S.M., deputed the task of conducting the recount, presented a report to the Magistrate this afternoon. It is freely rumored that seventeen ballot papers are missing, but those concerned in the; recount will not divulge any information.
