THE ARMIDALE MURDER.

A SENSATIONAL DEVELOPMENT. ARREST OF A WOMAN ON SUSPICION. United Press Association. Copyright SYDNEY, Dec. 14. No motive has been discovered for the crime. Miss Kelly had been employed at the hotel for only a few weeks. An engagement ring which arrived from her lover on the previous night was found under her pillow.

The girl O’Leary, -who slept in the room with Miss Kelly, has been arrested on suspicion. At the inquest the proprietress of the Central Hotel deposed that the girl O’Leary came to her room early in the morning and reported that Miss Kelly had burst a blood vessel. She went to the room and found that her throat bad been cut. O’Leary afterwards told the story of a man escaping by the window. In the meantime O’Leary bad changed her clothes in witness’ room. The police discovered partially burned portions of clothing, apparently blood-stained, under the copper. The witness was unaware that there had been a fire there since Saturday. As far as she knew Miss .Kelly and O’Leary were on good terms. Doctor Scott deposed to finding blood on O’Leary’s petticoat, underclothing, and fingers. She accounted for this by saying that she had sat by the bed holding the dying girl. A big three-bladed pocket-knife was also produced, with one of the blades marked with blood. Dr. Scott said that the blood found, on O’Leary’s clothes was not where it should have_ been if she bad been holding Miss Kelly. Some portions of the clothes were missing. Miss Kelly’s sweetheart deposed to giving her the engagement ring on Saturday night. Ho left her at eleven o’clock, when she was all right. The inquest was adjourned till Friday.
