LAWYER ACCUSED OF SWINDLING. AN ACTION FOR RESTITUTION. United Press Association. Copyright NEW YORK, Dec. 9. The American Chancery Judge sustained Mrs. Alaybrick’s-.action to recover possession of 2} million acres of land in Virginia, Kentucky, valued at £1,500,000, from Armstrong, the lawyer who represented hei* and Baroness Roque during the murder trial. The ladies declared that their signatures' consenting to parting with the land were obtained under duress and misrepresentation when they were in a state of mental collapse. The lawyer was paid £2OOO 'for the property, the ladies only receiving £6OO.
[Mrs. Maybrick, who is an. American, was found guilty in an English Court, of. having poisoned her husband. British public opinion was so strong in her favor that her sentence of death was commuted to imprisonment for life. Later on she was released and went to America.]
