LONDON, Doc. 8. The Prevention of Crimes Bill has been read a third time. It embodies ,a. provision for preventive detention. The Court is empowered to sentence for that purpose to .a minimum of five years and a- maximum of ten years, and the Home Secretary is empowered to shorten the sentences.

Mr. Keir Hardie lias introduced a Bill to amend the Unemployed Act, so as to enable (authorities to pay Avages out of the half-peimy rate already empowered, and the Local Government Board to appoint Local Distress Committees where none existed though required.
THE IRISH LAND BILL. a hostile amendment NEGATIVED. (Received Dec. 10, 12.40 a.m.) > LONDON, Dec. 9. Mr. AYyndliam’s amendment, to reject Mr. Birr-ell’s Irish Land Bill on the ground that it tlireAV fresh obstacles in the way of the sale of holdings to occupiers and increased the Exchequer’s responsibilities ■without conferring corresponding benefit on tenants and oAvners, was negatived by 233 to 62. Messrs Redmond, Guinell, and Cherry supported the Bill, and Messrs W. O’Brien, Cox, and C. Craig opposed it. Mr. Birrell replied, and the measure Avas read a second time and referred to a committee of the whole House.
