COOK COUNTY COUNCIL.
THE FINANCIAL POSITION. The Cook County Council met m committee yesterday morning to consider the financial position of the county and tlio best means which So expenditure could b. redo«d. There were present: The Chairman (Hon. Caiit. inckez), Crs. A. 1 - Matthews, jt. Sherratt, 1• - n-ir T. Holden, E. B. Boland, anu H ’White. After tho position had been dismissed at (length, it was ascertained that from March 31st to September 30th, 1909, there would bo £9OOO available for expenditure m the engineer’s department, and the overdraft would then be within the limit of the county (after ciivison) which Ls £15,000- . The legal overdraft and the liabilities for contracts now in hand wouki then amount to £23,000. The engineer (Mr. Fraser) was instructed that the amount available for expendxture uiitil September next would he only £9OOO a reduction of about £oooo on the original estimates for the year.
