THE HONEY SEASON.
FAVORABLE PROSPECTS
The prospects of the coming honeyseason are reported by the Government apiarist (Mr. Hopkins) to be very favorable. There has, lie says, been an outbreak of foul brood at the Rnakura apiary, but this has been subjected to a trial of. the McEvoy remedy, and it is expected that this treatment will result in a cure being effected. Beekeeping, Mr. Hopkins states, is generally on the increase in New Zealand, and there is an excellent market for honey. This, he states, is proved by a recent, report from the chief Government apiarist of Victoria on a visit made by him to Europe and America. Whilst,, lie said, Victorian honey was worth from £2l to £23 os per ton and Chilian honey from £2B to £3O per ton on the London market last season, the Now Zealand brought as high as £45 a ton. “This, says Mr. Hopkins,” “hoars out the statement that I have always made that our honey fetches (lie top price on the London market. Another tribute to the quality of our honey is contained in- an extract that I have seen recent English paper, which states that New Zealand honey, which sells at lOd per lb in England, is often sold as the English article, which is worth 2d per lb more.”
