Mr J. B. Clarkson, of Palmersion North, arrived in Gisborne on Saturday morning on a brief business visit. Miss (McLean, assistant Inspector of Hospitals, who has been in Gisborne for a few days, left for Auckland on Saturday morning. Constable Dwyer, who returned from Auckland yesterday afternoon, went to Napier last- night in charge of two prisoners. Among the callers at the High Commissioner's office. London, during October, were Mr Robert Knox and (Mr Lionel G. Clare, both of Gisborne.

(Mr George G. Schmidt, who, for a. number of years, was private secretary to the Hon. Wm. Hall-Jones, did not accompany the High Commission, er Home. Ho lias received the appointment of assistant-chief clerk m the Public Works Department. Mr E. Major A. W. Andrew, of the Indian Army (116th Mahraitas). is expected to arrive in New Zealand next week, on a visit to Christchurch, his native city. Major Andrew is enjoying a, year’s fairlough. and is wellknown in New Zealand from his former connection with the tSixth and Tenth New Zealand Contingents. The Hon. Jas. Carroll left for Wellington last night. He will take part in a caucus that will consider the future constitution of the Cabinet as a Result of the vacancies caused by the resignations of Messrs Hall-Jones and McNab. The Native (Minister was limping as he boarded the Tuatea in consequence of an injury to his Instep that became apparent the dav before.
