LICENSING COMMITTEE.
QUARTERLY MEETING
Tho quarterly meeting of the Waiapu Licensing Committee was held in the Courthouse yesterday. Present: Messrs W. A. Barton, -S.M. (chairman)’, J. Tonibleson, G. Darton, and J. Somervell. Sergeant Hutton,, officer in charge of the’ Gisborne police district, ' reported that the conduct of the hotels in, the borough and suburbs of Gisborne during the quarter had'been good. On inspection lie found all the hotels and out-premises clean and in good order, and as far as accommodation was concerned all that could be desired. There was a slight decrease in the arrests for drunkenness compared with last quarter. Two informations were laid against a former licensee of the Record Reign Hotel for breaches of the Licensing Act, which resulted in one case being dismissed and a conviction and fine being recorded in the other..
Constable Myles Doyle, in charge of the Te Karaka sub-district, reported that the Ormond, Oil Springs (Whatatutu), Rangatira (Te Karalca),Kaitaratahi, and Wacreiiga-a-liikaHo-tels and Motu accommodation house had been satisfactorily conducted during the past three months, and nothing had occurred worthy of being brought under the notice of the Committee. Constable G._F. Bevan, Waipiro Bay sub-district. Constable G. W. Wales, Port Awanui sub-district, and Constable D. M. Kirby, Tologa’ Bay sub-district, submitted satisfactory reports on tlio hotels in their several districts. The following transfers were granted Charles M. C. McCabe to. Harry Cooper, Waerenga-o-kuri Hotel; Thos. Wm. Hackett to Richard Stephen Chilton, British Empire Hotel; Joseph Burke to Adolphus J. Zachariah, Record .Reign Hotel. Messrs F. W. Nolan and A. W. Rees appeared in support of the applications.
