UNION CO.’S FIRST CADETS

WELLINGTON, Dec. 3

At daybreak to-morrow morning the Union Co.’s training ship Dartford will be towed out from the wool wharf to the stream to adjust compasses, prior to ileaving Wellington in the afternoon in tow of the cargo steamer Kamona for Kaipara. Adam, Lilvdale, Victoria, Australia. _ ‘The lads will receive such instruction in seamanship and navigation as will help them to qualify 'as officers after serving the necessary time afloat. The Union Company has ruj:>pilied the Dartford with a library of over a hundred books, comprising technical works, hooks on travel, science, history, poetry, selected novels, and adventure. A number of games, such as chess and draughts, have also been placed on board for the lads. Their first experience iat handling a sailing ship without the assistance of a. tow will be after the Dlirtford has loaded a cargo of timber at Kaipara, when she will sail for an Australian port.
