But then spinners strongly/ assert that they cannot get, for new yarn orders, a price commensurate with the cost of the raw material,, all offers being down a penny per pound. This means that there is to-day .a very different situation, and spinners are simply refusing to follow London or any other market. In the case of crossbreds, there is practically a repetition of what obtains for merinos. It is impossible to get more than lOd for 4.o’s and plenty of good combings are to be had for less. There is at present very little doing on export account in carded descriptions, and holders are in a- quandary ..over the future. So far no forward sales .have taken palce in crossbreds, a policy of slide being allowed to obtain on all hands. There is no increase of business at the yarn and piece end of the industry, and much machinery is still going short time, or standing altogether. Several orders have been accepted for yarns which work out at_ no more than for 64’s top, spinners preferring to take this and keep tlieir hands together, than allow machinery to stand. Mohair is exceedingly slow, and, if anything, ds to be had -Id cheaper than three weeks ago.
