” [Press Association.]
NAPIER, Deo, 1
The expectation of. improved prices on the wool market were more than realised at to-day’s opening sale, the prices reaching the -record of too years ago. An aggregate of 6700 bales was offered to an exceptionally large attendance of buyers, and the sales throughout the morning were marked wifi© keen animation, a distinct feature being the active competition of- American buyers. Up to noon the highest price realised was 12R1 for a sample of fine crossbred. Later.
A feature of the sale was the keen competition for alt lots of wool suitable for the American market,' and for the best qualities of fine crossbreds. Pricers ranged from 10d to 12Jd. Coarse crossbreds also showed considerable rise in prices as compared with the closing rates of September, and equal to prices obtained in this market at- tlie December sale of 1907. The condition of the word throughout was much better than it was last year, being better grown and in splendid order. A few lots showed that- no cure had been taken in skirt-, ing. The following is the range of prices obtained: —Fine crossbreds, good 10d t-o 12!,d, medium 8d to 9], inferior 6)d to 7-1- ; coarse crossbreds, 7d to BJd; medium si[d to 7d; pieces, first quality, 4-;[d to s£d, second quality 3d to 4.\d, locks lftl to 3d. —-
