PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

[Press Association.]

DUNEDIN, Nov. 17

In the Presbyterian Assembly this morning, the Rev. Mr. Harrison moved the adoption of the report of the Eire Insurance Committee, who were instructed, by last year’s Assembly to gather data in connection with a» scheme to enable *~the Presbyterian Church to establish' a fire insurance fund to insure its own church properties. The general principle of the scheme submitted is that of guarantees, no money being called from the guarantors except in event of such Josses as ordinary current revenue cannot meet. The committee sought power to ask guarantees up to £lO,000 from Presbyterians, and l outlined a scheme under which the fund would be controlled by three ministers and five laymen, who would levy the amounts payable by the churches to a fund as premiums to effect reinsurances with insurance companies, if considered desirable, and generally to manage the fund. The Assembly resolved to approve of the scheme, and urge people to support it.
