Sir, —In the interests of the public, I am prepared to make t-lic following request to Mr. Lysnar. 1 ask Mr. Lysnar to appoint a- competent accountant, and I will also appoint one, and to these two gentlemen we will submit all the available figures that are in dispute between us, and ask them to secure such other facts as may bo necessary to get at the truth as to the amount of liquor for which Gisborne is responsible, and also for which Invercargill, Oamarn, and Ashburton are responsible, together with such other figures or information as may bear upon the subject of valuations and population in these towns. I will be quite prepared to abide by the decision of theeo two experts if Mr Lysnar will give the same assurance. I •further request that the findings of these two gentlemen be authoritatively published in the papers next week, with Mr. Lysnar’s and my own signatures approving of tho same. All I want is the truth, and if I am in error I will readily admit it, but I must have the full lads, and 1 not only hall-truths. —1 am, etc., F. AY. CHATTERTON, President No-License League. HIS WORSHIP THE MAYOR UNRESERVEDLY ACCEPTED THE CHALLENGE. Before the ink was dry by which Ir. CHATTERTON ACKNOWLEDGED THE ACCURACY OF THE TGURES published regarding Liquor oming into Invercargill, the ,NO- - PARTY ISSUE A MISEADING PAMPHLET. Invercargill is the same Distributing Centre to-day as it was under License, and BY MR. CHATTERTON’S SIGNATURE IT IS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT DRINKING HAS BEEN MORE PREVALENT THAN UNDER LICENSE. HAS HE CARRIED OUT HIS PROMISE TO ACKNOWLEDGE HIS ERROR, which is conclusively proven by special accountants, verified in every instance by official records only? The Finding of the accountants was for LAST TWO YEARS UNDER LICENSE 325,755 Gallons, TWO YEARS UNDER NO-LICENSE 366,496 Gallons, or an INCREASE of OVER 40,000 Gallons in the Invercargill Electorate. AYE ARE TOLD in a pamphlet signed by Mr Chatterton, GISBORNE DRANK TWICE' MORE IN ’ ONE YEAR THAN ASHBURTON, INVERCARGILL, AND OAMARU TOGETHER. Tho Accountants found that even the RECORDED CONSUMPTION (only >a fractional part of the real consumption) was 190,394$ Gallons in Invercargill. HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY!
