Not for many years has such interest been taken in the elections for the members of the Cook County Council as was evinced yesterday. The contest was especially keen, as candidates advocating rival policies of administration offered their services to the ratepayers. The result was that all the Councillors who had opposed Cr. W. D. Lysiiar’s loan proposals were re-elected, in some cases by large majorities. Cr. F. J. Lysnar, who always supported the loan, will probably be returned, though the returns for Hangaroa are incomplete. Mr. W. D. Lysnar was defeated for the Wbataupo'ko riding by Mr. A. F. Matthews by 143 votes to 76, or a majority of nearly 2 to 1, the ]>olling being exceptionally heavy for mat riding. The following are the returns to hand:— S
