It is sometimes exceedingly cult to get do Pachmann, the great pianist, to a concert. At the last momhnt nervousness overtakes Aim, and he vows, with the airs of a spoilt child, that lie cannot and will not appear. He, f.ecls too ill, the weather is too bad. . . any and every excuse is made, until with tact and sympathy he is taken by some friends, in a closed cab, to the “ceremony.” And then, he will complain tills his, smallest finger aches; he must dip it in brandy. Ho, will often keen on audience waiting whilst ho solemnly and with an expression of great pain dips each .finger tenderly in a wineglassful of raw brandy.
