ATTEMPTED MURDER AND SUICIDE.

TAIHAPE, Nov. 5. News of a tragedy at Mangareka Hast night was received to-day. A ljfan named Krebs cut his wife’s (Moat, and then committed, suicide by jftmping over, a cliff. An inquest was held to-day." , Later.
A telegram from Tailuapo states that details of tlio Mangawelta tragedy are meagre. It appoars that F. A. Krebs, a laborer, aged 36, generally a sober man, had been drinking for th© last day or two. His wife, an ■ iiivalkl, asked him to ease her back. iShon after he placed an arm roufid his wife’s neck, lifted up her chin, and cut her throat. Beforo jumping off tlio cliff lie must have cut his own throat. Ho fell 300 ft. His head was battered in. The woman is alive, and may possibly recover. There is no clue at present as to th© motive. Tho inquest has been- adjourned.
