The accompaniments were tastefully played* by Miss Mcllhone. ( During an interval, Mr. J. Sheridan congratulated the club on the progress it liad made during tlie last six months. He referred briefly to the club’s - charter, and stated than since it had been obtained he had never seen a case of drunkenness in the club. Ho spoke* of the services that had been rendered the club by Mr. A. L. D. Fraser, of Napier, for which the dub was grateful, and lie moved l the following resolution: “That this meeting, in wishing Mr. A, L. D. Fraser every success at the forthcoming poll, desires to express the deep-rooted appreciation of tlie members of the Cosmopolitan Club of the many services rendered to them, and a thorough conviction that the electors of Napier will not be unmindful of Mr. Fraser’s statesmanship, as evidenced by his highly able services, not only to that constituency, but to the whole Dominion..” The motion found a seconder, and then the President (Mr. C. H. Ambridge) added a few remarks in support. He said that they were indebted to Parliament as a whole, and particularly to Mr. A. L. D. Fraser, for services to the club. Referring to nolicense, he said if it were carried in Gisborne the club’s charter would have to go, and! should that- prove the case, then he would have to seriously consider his position as President. They had* all heard, of the locker system. The club had 600 members, and he was afraid the task of looking after 600 men.with 600 lockers would prove too great for him. He was, however, satisfied there was going to be no change. Drink under control was better than drink under no control, and lie thought they had better remain as they were than risk something worse. . -, The resolution was then earned amid applause. . During the evening a tasty suppoi was solved) in an adjoining iroam, and at the conclusion of the programme .a hearty vote of thanktf was passed to all who had contributed towards the evening’s enjoyment.
