REV. WHITEHOUSE’S ADDRESS

[To the Editor.] Sir, —In your report of the above address you mention that Air.' Wbitehouse controverted many of the statements made in my circular “Nolieense, from a Business Standpoint.” Unfortunately I was (owing to Borough Council meeting) unable to lie present at' the address but I. am given to understand that though Air. Whiteliouse, of course, did not admit accuracy of the pamphlet, which was compiled only from official records and backed up by the testimony of Air. AV. Bryant, the rev. gentleman only challenged the accuracy of the figures' of the voting at) the recent Anglican Synod. I have only to mention that my figure® were taken from the Press Association telegram published in both local papers, and other New Zealand papers. However, the fact still remains that by a large majority of those bests calculated to judge, the motion to recommend nolicense was negatived by a substantial majority. I am -also- informed that .Air. AVhitehouse ridiculed the idea of the parsons travelling in the train with me from Dunedin, being button-holed on the Ashburton station. For corroboration of this sAubement I Would Ireijer our nolicense friends to All*. C. O'. Graham, at present acting -as Stipendiary Alagistrate in AVanganui, and in whoso company I was during most of the journey from Dunedin to Lyttelton.—l am etc. : ■ /-.■■■'•■ g. SJfETOAN,
