WAINGAKE v GISBORNE ELEVEN
The Victoria Domain Avas occupied all day Saturday by the match Wainga’ke against a local eleven. Play commenced at 11 o’clock, and at one o’clock the teams adjourned to the Record Reign Hotel, whore' the local men Avere the guests of the visitors at lunch. Waingako batted first, and were all disposed of for 33 runs, and the initial effort, of the local team produced 77 runs. On Wailigake going to the Avickets again, a better stand Avias made, 86 runs showing on the scoring beard when the last wicket fell. The Gisborne team thus had to obtain 42 to Avin, and although the time was short, the necessary number of runs Avere hit off for the loss of one Avtlcket. AUCKLAND, Nov. 1. The second round of the Auckland Cricket Association’s championships avus commenced yesterday, in beautiful Aveather andi on perfect Avickets. Big totals AA r cre made in two senior matches, Ponsonby, playing against University ,making 356, to Avliich A> Francis (the NeAV Zealand representative footballer) contributed 14. North Shore, playing against City, made 337. The folloAving is the result of the day’s play in the senior grade: Ponsonby versus’ University—Ponsonby, first innings 356 (Francis 145, Kovanagh 76 not out, Gavin 62). North Shore v City—North Shore, first innings 337 (Kallender 58, M. Mahon 44, Woodward 39, E. Philson 38 not out). Eden A v Grafton—Eden A, first innings 120 (Gumming® 48); R. Mason took seven Avicketsi for -52 runs; Grafton, first innings seven Avickets for 161 (S. P. Jones not out 34, P. Hill 34). Parnell v. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 31. Grade matches Avere continued today in wretched weather, a cold easterly being .succeeded by rain, and many of the games being stopped thereby. Another round of the first grade matches avuis completed, the results being:—Riccarton defeated Sydenham by 70 runs; scores, Riccarton 54 and 127, Sydenham 60 >and 52. West Christchurch, 252 and 75 for three Avickets (innings declared closed) beat LinAVOod, 125 iaaid 10 for no' AvicEast Christchurch made 112 ■and 19 for no Avickets, and St. Albans 112 and 148 for three wickets, the match resultin g in a draw. OTAGO MATCHES. [Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Nov. 1. The cricket season opened yesterday in bad Aveather, rain falling at frequent intervale. Dunedin made 79 against Opoho-, the latter compiling 50 for five Avickets. Grange met Carisbrook B, iand made 116 for seven Avickets (Beal 43).
